Ionospheric D Region: VLF?Measured Electron Densities Compared With Rocket?Based FIRI?2018 Model

چکیده

Ground-based very low frequency (VLF) radio propagation in the Earth-ionosphere waveguide has enabled extensive electron number densities D region of Earth's ionosphere to be determined, by day typically below heights 70–80 km and night height range ?75–90 km. Many rocket-based density measurements have also been reported literature from ?60 upwards using current probes, at a few MHz between rocket ground. Recently these summarized, supplemented with production-loss modeling, giving rise near global model named FIRI-2018 (Faraday-International Reference Ionosphere) which provides as functions height, latitude (<60°), solar zenith angle F10.7 cm flux. These values are here compared corresponding VLF measurements, low-latitude (?20°) high mid-latitude (?55°), mainly mid-latitudes. At average agreement (over 75–90 km) is remarkably good. By day, fairly good (in common ?60–75 km), changes being moderately comparable. For daytime mid-latitudes, less satisfactory, particularly lowest altitudes, showing expected effects cosmic rays much more than values. Overall, we find that description significant advance on earlier International Ionosphere (IRI-2016) model.

The estimation of D-region electron densities from riometer data

At high latitude the hard electron precipitation associated with auroral activity is a major source of ionization for the D-region, one consequence being the absorption of radio waves. Direct measurements of the D-region electron density are not readily available, however. This paper investigates the relationship between the electron density at altitudes between 100 and 70 km and the total radi...

Ionospheric total electron content (TEC) studies with GPS in the equatorial region

This paper essentially deals with the effects of equatorial ionization anomaly gradient on space-based navigation systems like GPS. The equatorial region of the ionosphere, which extends about ±30dip about the magnetic equator, is characterized by a steep latitudinal gradient, not only in the maximum ionization but also in the total electron content (TEC), through a major part of the day. This ...

Particle - in - a - box momentum densities compared with electron momentum spectroscopy measurements *

We investigate the momentum space representation of the solutions of a particle in a three-dimensional box. By comparing the calculated momentum densities of a particle in a box with the measured distribution of highly symmetric molecules we want to elucidate the nature of the measured orbitals. Finally the measured momentum distribution of a free electron metal is compared with the results of ...
